Engineering Designs

Once Planning Permission has been obtained from Local Authorities (where relevant), structural engineers are required to carry out details structural calculations to justify the sizes of structural elements used in the projects and submit their calculation report to Building Control to obtain Building Regulations, Party Wall agreements and sometimes, Thames Water approvals.

Works include extensions, new builds, refurbishments, strengthening, and all other structural alterations to buildings. We have extensive experience and knowledge in a variety of schemes from removal of load bearing walls to new builds including residential, commercial, and public buildings. We have sound knowledge of Health and Safety and CDM (construction, Design and Management) regulations.

Our objectives are to provide our clients and professionals such as Architects and Surveyors a comprehensive package which includes structural analysis and designs, details and specifications, advice on temporary supports to enable necessary approvals, party wall agreements and technical advice on construction sequences and how permanent elements could integrated into the temporary props to help reduce the construction cost and temporary props requirements, etc.

We work closely with builders too to ensure works run smoothly and on target.

We aim to provide designs to meet client’s requirements both in terms of visual prospective and value for money designs.

Structural Engineers design structures to withstand stresses and pressures due to weather (snows, wind, temperatures changes, etc) and human use. They ensure buildings and other structures do not bend, twist, collapse or vibrate beyond the expected limits and remain strong and secure throughout their use.

Structural Engineers help to design most structures including houses, theatres, sports venues, hospitals, office blocks, bridges, oil rigs, space satellites, ships and aircraft. They work in close partnership with Architects and other engineers such as Electrical, Mechanical and Public Health (drainage) engineers.

Structural Engineers have to choose appropriate materials, such as bricks, concrete, wood and metal, to meet the design specifications. When construction has begun, they are often involved in inspecting the work and advising contractors on site. They also examine existing buildings and other structures to test if they are structurally sound and fit for purpose. Structural Engineers have to make efficient use of funds and materials in order to achieve structural goals.
